The K series 'big blocks' had several different starters. Is any one of them clearly superior to the others?

I think that I heard somewhere that the magnum starter was superior in some way, but that it needs some sort of mod to fit.

I'm told that one starter has magnets. The other has field windings. There are different end caps.

I'm really going out on a limb here but.......back when I sold car parts in the early 90's seems as though the permanent magnet starters were kinda new. Peolpe used to smack the old style starters with a hammer to get a couple more starts out of them before expiration, with the newer style starters if you smacked them hard enough you could crack the magnets and ruin them. I seem to recall that the permanent magnet starters were more capable for the size . I hope this helps .
