Gee Nick, they just put a new store in close to me a couple of years ago to. 'bout 60 miles away. LOL The 6.5 horse is already on an internet sale, that's why I'm thinking about it.

I've signed up for their flyers a couple times, but they seem to come erratically. Maybe because I'm so close. NOT

I used to have stuff shipped to where I worked, Vic was pretty cool about that. Even shipped some stuff out. Can't beat that price, we never told the company, it was just another package among several going out every day.

I'm hoping the shipping guy where I now work is a good mood tomorrow, cause I want to see about in shipping there. Shipping to a business cheaper to boot.

Dale, I've got one of those Chinese copies. It came on my daughter's go-kart. I'd buy one, because her go-kart starts on the first or second pull, and runs very well. She's had it for 4 years, and it just keeps running like it did the first time it was cranked. I understand some people have had problems with some of the China copied engines, but mine has been great.

As I understand it, they come in red, black, yellow, and silver like mine.

Another thing is that the Honda parts are a direct match. Always a good thing...

I put a new 6.5 Intek on my Wheelhorse. Had it on there a coupla years. It usually starts on first on second pull. No problems noted so far. I was told that a 5 hp was plenty for these low geared tractors. As you know it is really easy to swap pulley sizes for faster or slower speeds and peak torque.

Ronscat,
I just wanted to say whtractor/welcomers.gif

Terry,

Thanks for the welcome. Neither of my Wheel Horse tractors are stock but I just try to enjoy them even if they aren't the way they came from the factory. I have read a lot of the restoration projects and modifications folks have done on their tractors on this site. (Just found the site last week).

Looking forward to new posts - especially the ones with pictures,

Ron in Georgia

Update... I've been putting it off... but I think I've finally decided to try to do the repower. not with the actual Honda... but that copy from HF. They're on sale right now for $299 (thru 3/10/08) I don't think I can pass up that price. That's less than half the price of the Honda, and 4 more HP! The electric start and the choke/throttle controls are able to be remoted, so moving them to the dash would be ok. I called the two HF stores up in the Twin Cities, and both are currently out of stock... this sale has had them flying off the shelf... they are going to offer rainchecks... I just have to go get one. Kind of annoying to have to drive three hours to get the raincheck... just have to incorporate it with a "necessary" other trip! According to the store employee I talked to they are copies of the Robin/Subaru motor, not the Honda... but I'm guessing they're all the same anyway!

Wow! I thought I had it bad when HF was an hour drive. One good thing is maybe they will send out a 10 or 15% off coupon before you get the engine. When you get it have to post some pictures and a review on the engine performance.

It's not really that bad... We usually get up to the cities every other month or so anyway... and the three hours means round trip. We'll be going up a couple times in the next two months anyway... I think we're getting some nursery furniture from up around there... and I'm trying to buy a snowmobile up in Duluth which means we have to drive about 2 miles away from HF as we go by on the highway. I will definitely keep you all posted with the fit and performance. I'm planning to throw it on the Raider for now, and if all goes well... I may get another for the Charger this summer. But that's a ways off.

The closest Harbor Freight to me is either New Jersey or around Albany, both far drives.

Nick- 02-28-2008
Jason,
That better, 3 hours round trip isnt so bad.

Karl,
Couple other places to try if you ever want to get an import engine shipped is Homier (rope start) or Carrol Stream. Carrol stream also sells the import Diesel.

I work 1/2 mile from Harbor Freight and actually cut through their parking lot when i leave the convenience store where I get my coffee. Oh yeah, I go one block from a Tractor Supply Store at least three times a week. Live can be good sometimes whtractor/thumbsup.gif Now if we only had a Wheel Horse dealer that was worth a crap in this town................

jschahl- 03-09-2008
Argh. mad.gif Went to HF and they were out of stock on the motor! Tried both stores, both Minneapolis and St. Paul... They had the 6.5Hp one in... but not the 13. Gave me a raincheck on the price though.... so eventually I will get this thing! The 6.5 was on sale too...nearly brought one home, but... well.... no specific need for it right now... and I'm sure there will be another sale if I come up with a need. biggrin.gif

Jason,
That's a bummer. I have been to a HF store several times and they were out of stock on a few items I was interested in. I hope they get one in quick for you.

huh.gif Okay guys, gonna need some help on ideas here. user posted image Got my new 13Hp 'lectric start from Harbor Freight... it doesn't fit in the engine compartment. user posted image Long to the front. mad.gif Need about three or four inches to the front. Here's the ideas I'm looking at.

1. return the engine. (not really likely... it's way out of the way, and I probably won't get all my money back (restock fees))

2. Leave the Hood off. (kind of defeats the purpose to me)

3. Figure a way to lengthen the hood.

This is going to go either on my Raider 9 or Charger 9. Neither has the front attach-a-matic, but I have one on that B-80 I'm parting. If I can figure a way to attach that (I'd prefer to bolt it on) then I think I can get the hood moved far enough forward to work, but then I'm a few inches short at the back end. user posted image I'm thinking about working it up like that and asking my next door neighbor (the body shop guy) if he can extend the backend of the hood. What do you guys think? whtractor/scratchhead.gif I realize I don't have anyone to be mad at but myself for not measuring it out, but being long to the front just never occurred to me.

guess I'll go ahead and claim my sign too. whtractor/imstupid.gif
