I am working on a 3.5 hp Brigs and it will run when I spray gas in the carb and then stop I have cleaned the carb but it still dose the same thing

the carb may be pluged still did you take everything out of it and if you did the carb could be shot

Is it a float type or diaphragm type carb, Rod?

If it's the float type, the main jet nozzle might be plugged.
If it's a diaphragm carb, the diaphragm might be bad.

It is a float type and yes I took everything apart and blew it all out with carb cleaner

ah yes, them newer briggs 3.5hp are a bugger. they are a throw away engine. i have had the same promblem your having. and never could get them to run right. i have another one on the kids go cart and that carb i cleaned and it actually runs but has its moments. i dont remember them having any carb adjustments. take it back off and clean again and blow it out real good with a blow gun. thats all you can do. they also have aluminum cylinders so you cant rebuild them.
will it run on its own with the choke closed or open a little ?.

No the choke closed or open makes no diff. I held my hand over it and still will not run
