I am in the process of refreshing my lawnranger and Ive found a couple of things that got my curiousity up....

1.) The fender tool box is missing holes to bolt to the bracket behind the gear shifter...Is this common in the 63 year models???,

2.) I dont think this is original, but notice how the brake spring is attached to the rear end,,,anyone ever seen one like this,,,or was this the previous owners imagination working?

youre right on #1 its not the org, tool box and the brake spring hook up is not factory

I have a 63 Ranger too.

My toolbox did not have the holes, and I do have a gap between the toolbox and the "strap" on the dack of the dash housing asembly. Its not as big as your gap though - mine is .180, I know because I drilled holes in the toolbox, and used washers to fill this gap up.

I agree on the clutch spring, mine is the plain old spring through the housing deal. That little eye is kinda elegant though, as long as it's not reducing the tension on the spring too much....

Wow thats interesting...This wheelhorse is been restored a few years back and it has almost all 100% original stuff..based on your post and maybe some other people I may leave this and not drill..... (It might be factory??)

my box was identical to yours....I justed pulled it back so it could be seen better by the viewers...my original gap was about one eighth


P.S Im repainting due to I dont like the color

10-4 on the paint color thing! Been there have that! On a couple of my horses the RJ58 and my 400 suburban. People go to all that trouble to do a paint job and they just can't take it a little further on the preporation or the paint match So dont feel left out!

By the way nice looking Ranger! Kinda like to have one of those for the ROUND HOOD STABLE!

Guys, the Rangers did not use the same toolbox as the 12" wheeled tractors thus the absence of the holes. The tapered side tool box found on the "numbered" machines bolted to this bracket, but the Ranger box did not. heck, they didn't even use the same fenders either. The Rangers used what appear to be modified Suburban tool boxes and Suburban fenders.

Thanks Dustin. I realised the toolbox and fenders were different. I also realised I was bastardizing mine by drilling the holes and bolting it to the dash tower.

I intend to use my ranger when its finished, probably just cut grass with it, but it has a rear hitch for a plow so maybe I'll try pushing some snow around (wonder how those little rear wheels will do in the snow!), so I figured tying in the dash tower to the rear of the tractor wouldnt be a bad thing.

Now I've thought about it, I wonder how it woould look with a pair of 8" Ags on the rear...
